Imagine it is 9 May 1945. Millions of Jews, Roma and Sinti have been murdered, numberless soldiers and civilians have perished, thousands of cities have been destroyed and everywhere you see large groups of refugees. A peace treaty has been signed, but what to do now? Where do you start in such an enormous crisis? How do you rebuild Europe? Do you dare to believe things will get better from now on, even humanity itself?

All over the world, democratic values are under threat. Devastating wars are raging in places like Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan. On top of that, we are at the beginning of a climate crisis. That is why RECONSTRUCT highlights the period after the Second World War. Who were those people who picked up the thread again and went on with their lives? How did they do that? RECONSTRUCT is a European project that offers stories on this site, a theatre piece called Pyrrha Throws a Stone and the game The New City.
